Ruché taste good for you

If in Castagnole someone offers you a taste of Ruché, it is because he cares of you. Here is reported at the entrance of Castagnole, homeland of Ruché. The wine is considered as one of the smallest piedmont’s DOCG and is produced by grapes of Ruché itself.

The names and origins are unknown; probably it comes from grapes coming from Bourgogne (FR) carried by monks that cultivate it in the Saint Rock monastery, which nowadays is no longer visible.

Producing lands are made of sandstone, dry and characterized by a high sun exposition and contribute to produce a high quality wine but in small quantities, it is the reason why in the past Ruché was considered a wine to be drunk at home.

        In early ’70 Ruché were discovered by our mourn priest Don Giacomo Cauda that thanx to his passion and perseverance contribute to start again the production and commercialization of this precious wine. The 10th of August 2003 Don Cauda was awarded by the acknowledgement from the village “to have believed in one of the most important traditions in Castagnole Monferrato, now heritage of piedmont’s enology: the Ruché”

Ruché DOCG production is limited to 7 municipalities:

Castagnole Monferrato;

Grana;

Montemagno;

Portacomaro;

Refrancore;

Scurzolengo;
Viarigi.

Ruché can be served with any traditional dishes, starters, soups or with more tasteful meat meals as well as with aged cheese.

As a Castagnolese tradition throughout centuries, prior to enjoy it with friends, Ruché lays in the typical crutin, very particular cellars carved in the tophus terrain of the hill of Castagnole. Ask to visit them, you’ll be impressed by the cares people take in creating them.

Every year in May we celebrate the “Ruché Festival” and the 10th of August – stars falling night, we meet astrologers, poets, fortune-tellers and wine producers in the historic center of Castagnole, enjoying the atmosphere created by this magic night tasting a glass of Ruché.
